Last week, I had the honor of accepting the 2024 Change Agent Award with @poweronprogram and LGBT Technology Partnership & Institute in Washington, DC.

I first learned about PowerOn at Creating Change 2023 from my bruh, Star Palmer—Executive Director and Founder of OurSpotKC, and a fellow member of Tau Kappa Phi, Inc. She told me about becoming a PowerOn Center and how it could grant access to crucial technology resources. As soon as I returned to Florida, I applied, and Trans Tech Social Enterprises received a grant that helped expand our operations. This allowed us to support volunteers who previously didn’t have access to laptops.

When PowerOn launched its Individual Tech Grant, I knew it would be perfect for TransTech Social members, many of whom had been asking for access to tech equipment. I collaborated with the amazing team at LGBT Tech to enable virtual referrals for our folks.

Over the past year, TransTech Social has referred more individuals to the grant than any other center, a testament to our community’s need and our commitment to providing access.

This grant process has been a labor of love—reading hundreds of applications and identifying which members are utilizing TransTech resources to advance their tech journeys.

Thank you to all the TransTech members and the entire LGBT Tech team for making this work possible and for continuing to invest in our community’s future!
